Manuscripts

The manuscript collection of the University Library comprises around 1,500 medieval and approximately 800 modern manuscripts. The most famous group consists of 214 primarily early medieval manuscripts from the former Cathedral Library. The foundation of the manuscript collection was laid during the university's early years. The collection experienced a significant increase during the secularization of the monastery and chapter libraries in an d around Würzburg in 1803.

All manuscriptes are gradually being made accressible through the Franconica portal.
