Prints
All books printed after December 31, 1500, are generally referred to as prints. Among these, pre-industrial prints, produced between 1501 and approximately 1830, hold a special place and are often called early prints. The collection of the University Library of Würzburg includes about 60,000 early prints and around 2,200 particularly valuable prints (known as rarissima). Some of the early prints and the rarissima come from the library's founding collection, acquired in 1619. Addionally, there are prints from smaller provenances (e.g., the Horn Collection), which were acquired in their entirty over time.
Most of our early printed works can now be found in the University Library's electronic catalog. A small portion of these has been digitized and is available through this portal.
