The standardized form of names follows Europäische Stammtafeln, Neue Folge, edited by Detlev Schwennicke, vol. I ff., Marburg; Frankfurt a. M. 1981 ff. (hereafter abbreviated as ESt), from which dates of birth and death, as well as other explanatory information, have also been drawn. The name conventions for Anglo-Saxon rulers in HStAW, EGA, Reg. O 21 adhere to the German text of Bede the Venerable: Kirchengeschichte des englischen Volkes, translated by G. Spitzbart, 2nd ed., Darmstadt 1997. For Bede’s Historia ecclesiastica gentis Anglorum, the abbreviation Beda, Hist. eccl. is used; for Geoffrey of Monmouth’s Historia regum Britanniae, the abbreviation Galfr. Mon., Hist. is employed.
